Some seriously fierce actresses are up for Best Female Performance this year! Will 2012 be the year of the Emma? And if so, which one? So many questions! Anyway, here’s the competition…

Emma Stone, ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’
Granted, making out with Ryan Gosling probably didn't pose much of an acting challenge. But leaving that aside, Stone’s performance spanned funny and heartwarming, and showed us once again why she’s one of this generation’s best and brightest actresses.

Emma Watson, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’
She was just a little girl when she was first chosen to play Hermione Granger, but Emma Watson has defined the character for a decade. In the final film, the stakes were higher than ever, and Watson’s performance rose to the challenge.

Jennifer Lawrence, ‘The Hunger Games’
It isn’t easy to take on the role of the heroine of a beloved book series—but fans agreed Jennifer Lawrence was a perfect Katniss Everdeen. The sunny blonde went dark in both hair and attitude to pull off the ‘Hunger’ heroine.

Kristen Wiig, ‘Bridesmaids’
The star and co-writer of ‘Bridesmaids’ made viewers laugh and cringe as her character Annie fumbled her way through her pal’s pre-wedding rituals. We need more romantic comedy heroines like this!

Rooney Mara, ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’
See above re: the difficulty of playing a beloved book heroine. Mara expertly brought the intense Lisbeth Salander to life, and became the rare actor to earn an Oscar nom AND a chance at a golden popcorn!
